Wild lettuce (Lactuca virosa)

For 20+ years I have had pain and couldn't use Aspirin (makes my ears ring), Tylenol(hurts my liver), Midol(hurts my kidneys) or any of the other over the counter pain killers are problems for me. I think it's just man-made anything

Sorry, I am not interested in any high, life is too important and don't want to mess it up. I suffer from constant pain, and yeah I think it would be great to get high, but getting paranoid on pot 30+ years ago cured me from ever trying it again.

I have been looking at herbs and alternative medicine for answers all these years. I knew eating the stem of regular Lettuce had a very mild effect on calming me. Then a couple of Wild Lettuce plants were growing in my garden. I looked it up and it seems to match my needs for a pain killer. It helps with joint pain and I have allot of arthritis in my back and body.
I started reading every link I could find on the web, it can be poisonous at high level.

I ate some of the seeds on the plant and wasn't sure if it did anything. That night my allergies were set off, I think it was from eating the Wild Lettuce seeds (I found this out after reading that it was a common symptom from eating any part of the plant because it's related to ragweed).

Today, I harvested several more plants from my neighbour's yard and I ate the smaller tender flower buds. I ate maybe 20 or more, I really didn't think it was going to effect me that much. Then I noticed a mild calmness and smooth ease of movement, yeah a little floaty. My constant back pain was gone. But I could feel my heart slow down and even felt stronger. I got a slight sweat and could feel my circulation increase as if my vains and arteries opened. But my ears were ringing a little more then usual. Most of it has lasted 2+ hours. Easy to think and flow with this, but causes a slight decrease in judgement (bummer I'll have to use it at home). Maybe like alcohol but no dopiness.

I made tea with this herb as was prescribed on the package. Because it did'nt work for me, I made some more tea with a larger dosage. I felt nothing special. Nothing at all.. Tried some more and the rest ended up in de garbage can.

I'm wondering to try on some Kratom. Maybe that will have more (or at least) some effect...

I went through the time and the effort to make the wild lettuce extract. At first i was skeptical because of the many bad reviews i read threw on several different sites, saying thats its not worth the time because it simply does not work. I used the method including soaking the plant in a large bowl of worm but not boiling water for 8 hours and then after squeezing all the juices out of the plant and putting it in a pan which is then placed in another pan of boiling water to quickly evaporate the liquid in the secondary pan which causes the dark liquid to evaporate instead of boiling thus, risking destroying the active ingredient that makes the whole thing work in the first place and i must say after actually making and smoking the extract i was pleasantly surprised i was very calm and tranquil i did indeed get a buzz that i actually liked. A weed like high i guess you could say but its not exactly the same. It wasn't harsh, quit smooth compared to what i expected. i smoked two large pee sized gum balls between me and my older cuz and he also like the results he often has sleeping problems as do i. I believe that this would work well as a sleep aid even tho it dosent really make you tired.. but yeah i am happy with how it came out. to think i harvested this plant from my back yard a plant that i had seem many times before but never knew what it could be turned into..lol.. some people said it was similar to opium, hence the name "opium lettuce" but i cant really used that as a comparison saying Ive never tried opium lol.. so if you were wondering if its worth the time and effort. yah i would say go for it its not bad and its free so you aint got nothen to loose unless your a jack ass that will mistake this plant that you can get many pictures of all over the net, for another highly toxic plant then i guess thats your fault but other than that i believe its worth it.... have fun.. oh and i was wondering if anybody tried the alcohol method for making the extract, and how that worked out for you?

i had a migraine for 3 years that even doctors couldnt get rid of. and i just add like half a teaspoon to my teabags when i make tea. and it cured me i cant drink the tea all day and not have to worry bout overdose and it gives me a calm mellow feeling and no migraine. and in such small doses and water down with the tea i give my kids a little bit and it calms them down, but please do be cautious with giving to children even in small amounts can be poisonous and fatal so dont over do it please. i shouldnt of said that, now some moron will od their kids. please dont. and its works if you smoke the leaves also, though it is very harsh( i mixed it with weed and it was a very relaxing, pain relieving buzz) i have also make a tea from the leaves in my coffee maker, its very bitter, if you like herbal tea you may like it. although it does not get you high it is a cheap pain reliver like 2$ an ounce at my local herb store, and its legal and non additing. i am goin to try the gum thing, even though it has a bad review and its alot of work to not get high and a higher risk of overdose. but what the hell i will prolly like it. but so far with my mixing it with tea recipe, i really like it. its affordable and it cured my migraine and very useful, but its still not as good as my pot!. but if you really want something that will knock you on your ass try Salvia. just smoking the leaves one puff will mess your world up for about a minute. and its fairly cheap and legal in some places. i bought it online like $20 for an oz but just a fingernail full in a bowl with take to past cloud 9. doesnt last long but definitly worth trying with caution, cuz i smoked it lots of times and snapped out of it like a minute later and was drooling on myself and mumblin lol! and i smoke pot and do pain pills on a daily basis. so yea have fun and be safe

At first I was disappointed by the infusion, but the extraction is worth the try. I rolled a little bit with some tobacco and had kind of the body buzz of weed (slightly lighter tho), with light headness, but still quite sharp thinking -unlike weed. Next time, I'm gonna try it in combination with weed or add some more extract.
But if you are really looking for a weed-alternative or opium-alternative, you might be disappointed since the effect is lighter and shorter lasting then weed, and nothing close to real opium.

It's powerful.
Go easy on this.

Don't take too much.
Really: two teaspoones for 200ml: enough.

Very relaxing.

The usage/preparation neglected to mention that you can make small insicions in the stem and a milky white sap will come out much like opium (why it's called opium lettuce) and you just get some to drip on your knife and transfer it to a bowl let it dry and then smoke up!!! Also it grows all over the Northeast United States not just in the South....I thought it was just like opium too, even tastes a bit like opium.

Well I have to say this is a very very interesting herb.
I made the gom it took a while but its so worth it. I vaporize it in a smoking bubble (like the vapo2 here at azarius). It isn't harsh on the lungs and its a nice cool smoke tastes pretty good BUT the effects aren't that strong (for me that is). Makes me kinda floaty so as said before don't expect to get blown away.

Now I tried something i found on the internet its called black-bombey. What you do is you roll a joint (or fill a cone which was easier to my opinion) with a mixture of hash and wild lettuce gom. Be carefull though it hits you like a giant hammer. The smoke is good and since a joint isn't a direct flame the heat vaporizes the wild lettuce gom before it gets burned. I use a mixture of tobacco, hash and gom. the hash and the gom are in the same amounts. don't take to much tough try small amounts (i used 1/4 of a gram hash and an amount of gom the size of a big pea). divided it into lots of fragments filled my cone with the hash, tobacco and lettuce gom and smoked it. it was heavy i fellt it fast and i smoke weed and hash on a very regular basis. its just a great thing to do if you don't make it to heavy cause that is just hard you will be completely paralized as a matter of speech.

anyway try it you'll be amazed

greetings
